Katie Cahnmann, LPC

My goal as a therapist is to provide you with guidance on your journey of self-discovery and living an abundant, gratifying life. My ultimate hope is that all my clients walk away with a deeper sense of self and the confidence to reach their highest potential. Working from a collaborative, strength-based, and person-centered approach, I support my clients on their path toward empowerment and peace, with the understanding that each is the expert on their own life. Let's work together to help you feel, deal, heal, and create a life worth living.

Because every individual is unique and experiences adversity differently, I work to empower each client to embrace their strengths and develop goals that promote living a healthy, happy life. With the support of a strong, therapeutic relationship, my clients can gain the skills needed to make the positive changes they are seeking. I believe everyone deserves access to a healing, judgment-free place to work through life's challenges. My job is to foster an environment in which clients feel safe to tell their story, to examine and gain insight into how it has impacted them, and to create a new, more-fulfilling reality.

I have experience in a variety of therapeutic environments, including community counseling centers, schools, youth detention centers, shelters, crisis hotlines, and family homes. For eight years, I served as the Director of Social Support at a charter high school in Chicago providing individual and group support, crisis counseling, and class wide instruction on topics including stress, test anxiety, personal hygiene, self-confidence, and more. Additionally, I also facilitated several after-school programs and organized school wide events. I have worked extensively with families, adolescents, and children addressing trauma, crisis situations, communication challenges, low self-esteem, depression, shame, anger, identity issues, stress, relationship concerns, and life transitions. My most-recent experience has been working with young adults and the 55+ population.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master of Education (MEd) in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Georgia and a Professional Educator License (PEL) in School Counseling from Northern Illinois University.
