Dr. Jonathan Katz, Psy.D
Clients who come to me often tell me they experience an "awakening" in therapy. I believe this comes about from an exploration of self—one’s past, present, and future goals and aspirations. In my sessions, I provide clients with the space to gain a deeper level of calm introspection, to actually feel their feelings, and to access their imagination so that a more meaningful connection with life will flourish. My ultimate goals as a therapist are to help clients cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves, provide relief from symptoms of past hurts and trauma, promote authenticity, gain perspective, and most importantly, to unearth hidden strengths, while overcoming challenges. Sometimes, I find that accessing and creating a new “personal story” will open up a deeper awareness of one’s unique place in the world, whether this be spiritual or otherwise. I believe this to be a by-product of self-empowerment, which is something that I feel very effective at facilitating. Healing manifests in different ways; sometimes it's as simple as having someone to talk to. Through listening, validating, and demonstrating empathy, I hope that all of my clients will "awaken" so that they might implement changes in order to reclaim the life they want to have.
I have experience in many creative fields as well. I have also taught meditation, Qigong, and traditional Chinese martial arts for over 20 years. I have worked in the mental health field for over 16 years.
